As a reliable disseminator of the anti-Trump narrative, it was surprising that Thyagaraj Markandan did not include the currently favoured designation of President Trump as a “fascist” in his rant about the “vile” 47th President “spreading hatred,” indulging in “violent invective” and “foul language” (The Mercury, April 30).
Like all adherents to the mass media narratives, Markandan finds nothing offensive about the Left’s darling comedian, Jimmy Kimmel, hinting that if Trump were assassinated his much younger wife might “glow like an expectant widow.” Only the TDS- inflamed would fail to discern the malevolence in such a comment.
But then that is the climate which the mass media has cultivated and normalized. Daily repetition has transformed legacy media opinions of Trump into fact. Thus, he is regarded as anything from deranged and confused to having become a despot and a fascist. Yet none of the sources of those opinions has ever analysed what fascism was like under Mussolini a century ago and objectively contrasted that with Trump’s policies in the current context.
Instead of their chorus of relief that the intended assassin at the Washington DC Hilton Hotel on April 25 failed in his mission, the mass media should contemplate the extent to which it is complicit in fuelling the hate and commitment to violence that motivated Cole T Allen to travel from California to DC to kill Trump.
In a less deranged and warped social climate, Kimmel would have been sacked. But ABC, which raked in $1,747 billion in revenue in 2024, is not worried about losing a few outraged viewers. The show goes on and the indoctrination, double standards and lies continue.
That said, Thyagaraj Markandan’s legacy media schooling on world affairs shows its limitations. He applauds those who value democracy but finds fault with Trump for removing Maduro, dictator of the criminal regime which oppressed Venezuelans. Similarly, how can Trump’s intention of liberating Cuba from the repression of 60 years of failed socialism be reprehensible?
Despite the draconian Khamenei regime’s promotion of terrorism and its brutal persecution of civilians, Markandan claims Trump’s attack on Iran was ‘unprovoked.’ On Fox News, March 3, Trump’s chief negotiator, Steve Witkoff, stated that Intel sources indicated that an Iranian strike against the US was imminent and that it had eleven nuclear bombs ready to go.
That is provocation, Mr Markandan, affirmed by Iran’s long-standing pledge of ‘death to America,’ which is why, despite the negative legacy media, 60% of Americans regard Iran as a national security threat, according to the latest Harvard/Harris poll.
