Description
Liaisons explores the lives of two fictitious Yorkshire immigrant families on the sugar-growing Natal South Coast. Contextualised within the period 1860–1875, it provides insights into a time and place while tracking interaction between actual and fictitious characters.
Besides episodes of drama, tragedy, violence, kidnapping, and romance, Liaisons revisits controversial issues of Victorian times: women’s rights, social conventions, labour exploitation, predatory capitalism, and racial division.
As such, Liaisons is a gentle dip into a forgotten past packaged within credible and dramatic human experiences.
