Trump’s Measures Against ANC Are To Be Welcomed

Some of the conclusions of The Mercury’s editorial of February 10 are not only questionable but actually inaccurate.

There certainly is a great resilience amongst the remaining white community not to abandon what they have inherited from the labours of their forebears. That explains the negative reception accorded to President Trump’s offer of emigration to the US as refugees.

However, the editorial’s claim that the ANC government’s decision to indict Israel for genocide “signifies our commitment to standing up for the oppressed and our unwillingness to compromise our values for international favour” is absolutely not the opinion of most thinking South Africans.

It is common knowledge that the ANC was goaded into making a case against Israel as a quid pro quo for the financial aid it received from Iran. Besides, there are no “values” in supporting Hamas and its ilk which are committed to eradicating Israel “from the river to the sea.”

But where the editorial strays further from reality is in stating “We are all bound by a shared vision where inclusivity and mutual respect pave the way for collective progress.” Where is the “inclusivity” in the racially discriminatory laws that apply to minorities?

Allison Schoeman, an attorney of the Bluff, has made the following very relevant argument on social media: “Race-based policies are no longer about addressing past injustices but have evolved into constructive deprivation of rights. Under the guise of redress and transformation, certain groups have been systematically excluded, stripping away opportunities and creating a new form of oppression.”

Ms Schoeman’s observation that the prioritisation of race over competence has weakened institutions, deterred investment and promoted the immigration of skills is an incontrovertible fact.

President Trump’s critical focus on this reality is consistent with his commitment to merit as the only criterion in procurement and employment. As such, his punitive measures against the ANC are to be welcomed as a means of coercing it to abandon its reverse racism and its terrorist friends and wising up to the real benefits that are on offer from America.
