Although in plain sight, the EU’s pretence of supporting Greenland against a US takeover of the territory misses the reason why Trump is determined for the US to own it.
U.S. intelligence has confirmed increased Russian and Chinese interest in Greenland. Mindful of how China slowly elbowed its way into controlling much of Panama, in particular the canal, Trump has stated that “If we don’t get Greenland, Russia or China will, and I am not going to let that happen” (Newsmax, January 12).
In 2019, during his first Administration, Trump signed a treaty with Greenland on mineral collaboration based on the fact that Greenland has 39 minerals classified as critical to US national security. In that regard, Chinese and Russian interest in Greenland is understandable.
Another significant factor about Greenland’s location is that it lies beneath many air and missile passages, as well as its proximity to northwest navigation routes.
The reason Trump is indifferent towards the EU’s concern about what US unilateral action on Greenland would mean to the future of Nato is that Trump wants Nato gone. Like other institutions established after WW2, Nato is no longer relevant. Russia has no intention of invading Europe. Besides, until 2025, Europe’s contribution to maintaining Nato was negligible.
For the globalists who rule most of Europe, NATO is their weapon to support Ukraine and to start a war with Russia – a war Russia does not seek, nor do the peoples of Europe. Without the US, NATO will capsize, which would be a great loss for the globalists who, with their uncontrolled migration, Orwellian censorship and anti-Western Christian policies, are the real enemy of Europe.
Thus, the contrived tone of displeasure and posturing by the EU’s commissar of defence, Andrius Kubilius, at Trump’s designs on Greenland is futile because the state of geopolitics has moved on.
