Accountability Should Cure TDS

Detoxing from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) may be impossible for some like Thyagaraj Markandan (The Mercury, February 7), but as truths pour out about the corrupt state of government in the US, recovery for many may be on the horizon.

At least one of the causes of TDS and its promotion has now been revealed. Elon Musk has uncovered a role of the USAID agency in promoting it. Associated Press has been receiving millions in government funding since Obama amended the Smith-Munct Act in 2013 which effectively legalised propaganda.

Reuters received $9 million of US taxpayers’ money to implement “Social engineering and Psychological Operations” against US citizens. Politico, a leftist publication received $8 million to assist in disseminating anti-Trump, globalist narratives. The money was concealed under ‘subscriptions’ which ranged from $10,000 to $75,000 a year. USAID to Disney was disguised in the form of 700,000 ‘subscriptions.’

With the New York Times playing the role of ‘narrative co-ordination’ and the rest of the mainstream media operating as narrative distributors, implementing and sustaining TDS has been an easy task – until Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency and the decision to shut down USAID.

USAID came into being by an Executive Order issued by President Kennedy. It was never certified by Congress as a permanent agency and, therefore, can be abolished by an Executive Order. That nullifies the claim that Trump is acting like a ‘dictator.’

Significantly, Trump’s detractors never accused Biden of despotism when he unilaterally shut down the Keystone oil pipeline destroying 14,000 jobs; unleashed 5,000 FBI agents to track and arrest Americans who were present at the Capitol on January 6, 2021; weaponised the Justice Department to persecute and prosecute protesters against abortion, Critical Race Theory and gender issues as ‘domestic terrorists.’

Trump received a clear mandate to put America’s interests first, restore government to the people, clean out the globalist bureaucracy, secure the borders and deport illegal aliens. His idea of the US taking over Gaza and re-establishing it as a liveable, stable territory should be applauded because it brings fresh prospects to the resolution of that cauldron of conflict.

Of course, globalist adherents are aghast at Trump’s initiatives and successes despite the false narratives they have manufactured and disseminated. But convalescence is on its way. The coming wave of accountability in the US should cure all but the severest cases of TDS.
